Spring Break 2009-South Lake Tahoe, Nevada

After a four busy months of school Spring Break finally arrived. This year we were lucky enough to snag a week at my parent's condo in South Lake Tahoe. Our friends Theron and Christina joined us this year. We arrived on Sunday to bitter cold and LOTS of new snow. The drive from Reno to the condo was pretty interesting, thanks to Christina for driving the sketchy roads. Once we arrived at the condo we immediately settled in for some down time. Then it was off to check out the hot tub and the rest of the facilities. Later that evening we headed to the State Line to grab some dinner. We ended up eating at an Irish Pub. After dinner Mike and Theron hung out at the Casinos for a while and Christina and I headed back up the hill to the condo.
On Monday Mike and Theron hit the hot tub early and after lunch we decided to drive back to the State Line and wander around a bit. We ended up driving back into Reno to search out the Patagonia Outlet Store. But before we could shop, we had to eat. I had never been to an In and Out Burger, so we stopped in for a greasy, but delicious lunch.
Next it was onto the Patagonia Outlet Store. What a fantastic place! I scored an AMAZING new jacket, which you will see in the rest of the photos. I have needed a new ski jacket for more than a couple of years, and I couldn't pass up the $400 mark down on the jacket. As if getting a sweet deal on a jacket wasn't enough we then found the Trader Joe's in Reno and Christina and I had a great time picking up a few things. I so wish we had a Trader Joe's in Boise. We picked up some Carne Asada for dinner and begun the trip back to South Lake Tahoe.
We made a quick stop on our way back to take in some of the views by the lake.

On Tuesday I figured I better get back on my training schedule, so I forced myself into the gym for a workout. A soak in the hot tub was in order after a workout. After lunch Christina dropped Mike, Theron, and I off at the Stage Coach Chair near the top of Heavenly. It was a PERFECT day for skiing, I couldn't have asked for anything better. Heavenly was amazing, but I came to the conclusion that I am not a big resort girl. I prefer the small mom and pop ski resorts. Either way, we had a great time and it was fun to ski a new resort.

4:30 came fast and Christina picked us up. She had been making the most delicious lasagna while we skied. We had a delicious dinner and spent the rest of the night relaxing.
The rest of the trip was great. We didn't do a whole lot, but it was nice to relax. We couldn't have asked for better company on the trip and look forward to another trip with Theron and Christina soon.
I am glad to be home with my pups who had a great time with their new friend Marianne. She royally spoiled them and I am sure they are already looking forward to having her stay with them again.
Now it's back to the grindstone to finish up the rest of the semester.

February Update

So it has been a while since my last post. I am trying to recall everything that has happened since the 14th. I have been staying busy with school. On Monday I finished up one of my classes that was only eight weeks long. I am looking forward to putting more energy into my other classes. Today was my last day at my first clinical facility. I am excited to move onto something new with more learning opportunities. So enough about school.

We had the annual Eagle Fire Department Awards Banquet on the 20th. It was really great to see some people I haven't seen since last summer.

This past Thursday Mike and I went to Bogus Basin for our almost weekly day of skiing. The snow report looked good, but words can't describe how incredible the skiing was. There was at least 10 inches of fresh, light, fluffy powder. In other areas there was over 10 inches. We skied until our legs couldn't do another lunge. A funny side note......we were skiing under chair 3, where everyone can watch you and we both got so wrapped up in our turns that we didn't see each other until the last second when Mike slammed into me. I turned to see his eyes right before it happened and the only thing I could think of was, please don't break my shoulder! I shook it off and we were off for more turns.

Last weekend was pretty boring. I worked Friday and Saturday, 12+ hours each day. By Sunday I was wiped and was ready to chill out and do some homework. I even took a little time to be lazy and watch Anne of Avonlea on PBS. I have always loved the Anne of Green Gables series and enjoy it when PBS airs them during their fundraisers.

The dogs are doing well. They are spunky and keep making us laugh. Lately Beck and Cassius have been playing with each other on a daily basis. They are a good pair, but we really enjoy watching them play. It may sound ugly but they are having a great time.
They keep me in check and are good motivators for me. I decided to run a 1/2 marathon in May and decided while I was at it to train for my second marathon in September. They have been good about training with me. I have a hard time blowing off a run when Cassius stares me down or paces the house with boredom. Beck follows me around if she notices I am chaning into workout clothes. She will literally sit on top of me while I am trying to put on my running shoes. She won't let me forget to bring her along. The border collie in her comes out and she starts herding me around the house.
So there is the update from February. Hopefully March won't be so skimpy for posts.
